Swing Remix Extravaganza is Saturday February 7th 2009 at our brand new venue, the JCC on the Upper West Side at 334 Amsterdam Ave by 76th Street. Doors open at 7:30 general admission. Free beginner dance lesson at 7:45pm. Live band at 8:30pm, event ends at 1:00am.

Boilermaker Jazz Band

February 7th 2009 features the Boilermakers! who have joined us in the past with great Fan Fare! Band leader Paul Consentino will also be featuring singer Dawn Lambeth from California. She brings her lilting effervescent style to this authentic hot jazz, ragtime and swing ensemble. Read all about them here.

Please note that we have a huge floor for these classes providing plenty of space for all attendees! 6:15-7:30 LINDY HOP/SWING: Let's get Crankin' (Prereq: Swing/Lindy knowledge)
You've got some solid swing basics down. Now let's work in some swingin' combinations. Leaders learn fun creative ways to rotate and release your partner. Followers learn the art of handling these creative combinations while adding their own movement. Will include some spins and dips. Held at Goldman-Sonnenfeldt Auditorium at the JCC

Maggie Moon
Maggie most recently performed Lindy Hop and Tap in the 2008-2009 holiday show Sleigh Bells Swing with George Gee and his 22-piece big band in Times Square. In her more than 11 years of swing dancing, she has held multiple national and international championship titles, choreographed award winning routines, and taught and performed in major national and international cities. Currently living on the upper west side with her husband, Maggie is pleased to join in the fun of SwingReMix right in her own backyard. maggiemoon.com

Paolo Pasta Lanna
Paolo has been specializing in partner dances since 1995. He has toured with with Wynton Marsalis and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, as well as “Swing Dance America” and “Forever Swing” The Big Band Musical Revue that featured Michael Buble. He has appeared on several Television/Film programs from CNBC’s Great Stuff to The David Letterman Show demonstrating the Lindy Hop and he continues to hone his knowledge and skills of these classic American dances by teaching and performing throughout the world. Paolo has founded events such as the Summer Jamboree Dance Camp in Italy, Central Park Swings and this very event Swing Remix. paoloswings.com

Swing Remix Extravaganza was Saturday November 15th 2008 at our brand new venue, the JCC on the Upper West Side at 334 Amsterdam Ave by 76th Street. The Featured band was JC Hopkins and featured guest singers Queen Esther and Todd Lonegan!

Swing Remix also featured two fabulous workshops on Saturday Nov 15th 2008 with two fabulous instructors! We had over 40 participants who enjoyed the huge 20’ X 50’ sprung wood floor studio for these classes.

5:00-6:00 LINDY HOP: Styling
A workshop for lindy hoppers of any level, this is your chance to review and style the 8-count swing out and circle. Dave will break down the mechanics with a focus on rhythm and connection.

6:10-7:10 LINDY HOP: Let’s Mix it Up! (Prereq: 8 count lindy knowledge)
You've just tuned up your swing out, now let's work in some swingin' combinations. Leaders learn fun creative ways to engage and release your partner. Followers learn the art of handling these intricate combinations while showcasing your individuality.

Dave Graybill:

Dave Graybill started competing in 1998, and has since earned the titles of U.S. Open Swing Dance Champion, American Lindy Hop Champion, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown Champion, Georgia State Open Champion, Virginia State Open Champion, New Year’s Eve Dance Extravaganza & Swingin’ New England Champion. He has lived in New York, Singapore, Raleigh, Chicago, Oakland, and Los Angeles and has traveled to Japan, Indonesia, London, Paris, and Edinburgh for fun, and the love of teaching dance. He currently lives in Connecticut teaching private, group, and club lessons and passes the time in between dancing, riting fiction, and articles for Swing Dancer magazine.

Carol Fraser
Carol has performed, judged, and taught in the world of Lindy for almost 10 years. In that time, she has created multiple world class performance teams, has won top honors at multiple national competitions and is now a mother of 3. She holds Champion titles from US Open Swing Dance Championship, ALHC, North Atlantic Dance Championships, Camp Hollywood, Virginia State Open, New Year’s Eve Dance Extravaganza & Swingin’ New England.Recognized around the world for her entertaining and energetic teaching and performing style, Carol joins Dave Graybill this time around for some simply electrifying workshops.

The winners were Michelle and Sam who each received $25 Gift Certificates from WorldTone Shoes and Complimentarty Entry into the Advanced Balboa Division at the ALHC valued at $60.00 on Oct 25-28, 2007. 2nd Place finishers Byron and Audrey also won $25 Gift Certificates to WorldTone.

October 21st will Featured the Boilermakers! who returned for their second appearance at Swing Remix. Their last show here gave us our largest attendance to date and we expect Oct 21st to be a record breaker for us!

Also, we are holding a  Balboa Dance Competition at 10pm for couples only. The winning couple will Two gift certificates at World Tone Shoes worth $25 each and a free entry into the Advance Balboa Division a $60 value (non champions) at the American Lindy Hop Championships Oct 25-28 2007. $5 per couple to enter. This competition will be judged based on audience feedback.


We are extra pleased to announce our special guest instructor for our afternoon workshops
Nathalie Gomes! She will be flying in from New Orleans, LA to teach our afternoon classes for Only Sunday at SOL. We are limiting the number of students in these workshops so that we keep a balance of leaders and followers so please sign up in advance soon so not to be shut out! We will be offering workshop tickets at the door at a first come first serve basis and we will guarantee some availability at the door.

Nathalie Gomes
Nathalie is the founder and owner of Hop Swing & a Jump dance studios*. She has held multiple national and international championship titles, and choreographed award winning dance teams including the renowned "Hop Swing & a Jump" Team.
Nathalie has exposed countless dancers, many who have gone on to become successful dance teachers and performers in their own right. She will teach all levels and offer a variety of subject matter.

Swing band that was there for the rebirth of LindyHop in NYC.

Featured Instructor
Roddy Caravella
Trained by Paul Grecki and Frankie Manning, Roddy has taught and performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Germany and Hong Kong. He was a principal dancer in the show Swing Dance America and has performed live with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Roddy has competed (and placed) in a number of competitions, such as The American Lindy Hop Championships and American Swing Dance Championships. Roddy has danced on a variety of television programs, including Good Morning America and The Today Show. He's been a fixture in the Lindy Hop scene in NYC since the 1990's and is certainly treasured amongst his numerous followers and disciples.

features Stompy Jones. "Stompy Jones is a San Francisco based sextet, renowned for their jumpin' rhythm, wailing improvisations, hip charm and explosive stage show...."
This is a fantastic band and they are traveling all the way from California so you won’t have another opportunity like this for a long time! Our featured DJ for the night will be Nando (late sets) and Lollihop (early sets)
. Our late afternoon Workshops will be taught by world class instructors Matt Bedell and Laura Jeffers! And we will have some special giveaways and performances later in the evening! We hope you can make it. Our special dance performance will feature an All Girl Charleston number choreographed by Evita Arce. (not to be missed @ approx. 10:15pm)

Matt with partner Jennifer Jones placed 1st in the 2004 American Lindy Hop Championships Open Showcase division and in the Champions Routine division at the 2003 New York Lindy Hop Open......Matt taught as a core member of Hop Swing & a Jump from 1999-2003.

Laura is director of the Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, New York City's premier swing dance troupe, sponsored by the New York Swing Dance Society.....She has placed in a number of competitions, taking 1st in the 1998 American Swing Dance Championships Lindy Hop Jack and Jill division....Laura taught swing at the Sandra Cameron Dance Center from 1996-2003.

Our Third installment of Swing Remix features The Blue Vipers, a fabulous acoustic Dixieland, early swing, gospel and blues band. Our DJ’s for this event are Matt Perelli and Paolo Pants. Intermediate and advanced dance Workshops beginning late afternoon willl be taught by Matt and Laura .There will be a special surprise dance performance along with more 1940’s dance film footage and photos projected. Dance begins at 8pm and ends at Midnight.

Complimentary pedicab service between the hours of 8:00pm – 9:30pm and then again at 11pm. The pick up point will be 8th Ave/29th St. and you will see them travelling along 29th Street. Look for our banners on them!

April 29th we return for our second installment. This dance will Feature the Boilermakers! Competition News!

We will be hosting a Balboa Jack and Jill Competition late in the evening. The prize for First Place will be shoes from Remix Vintage (valued up to $148 per pair and the shoes
can be of your choosing from their collection!) Just $2 a person to enter this competition which is open to all - amatuer or professional. Judging will be based on audience feedback as well as our Judges scores. Our Judges presently scheduled are Mickey and Kelly and Paolo Pants. Please note that there may be a challenging stunt that will be required of the dance couples during the final round.
