6:30 – Turning Inside & Out  | Swing Workshop (Adv Basics and up) Get a refresher on your shuffles and lead/follow technique. Then we'll work the Swing Step, The Yo Yo, and kick it up a notch!

As an advanced beginner dancer we prepare ourselves to learn the eight-count patterns of Lindy Hop, or level three. This is more difficult without a firm grasp of level two, first. This intensive Six-Count Swing review will cover lots of level two patterns and skills in triple steps to get you closer to your Lindy Hop goals. Instructors: Spencer Weisbond and Maria Kelley

When the tempo gets slow, it can be difficult to use your swing steps and moves.  This class will teach alternative steps, as well as strategies for pacing the standards, and it will give you a chance to practice leading and following.  Students should already be familiar with triple-steps and basic, six-count swing moves.

This class will take your current 6 count moves and make them flashier, more intricate, and more fun. Lindy hop, the grandfather of swing dance is full of 6 counts moves. There is no reason why these moves need to just be "filler". Jazz them up! You must have a comfortable knowledge of 6-count swing in triple step to take this class. knowledge of the 6-count basics is recommended for this class.

7:00 PM Frankie Savoy Style Swing Workshop (All Levels- knowledge of Swing basics recommended) 50min
Here are the patterns and vocabulary that are most closely associated with the Lindy Hop Savoy Style. Roddy will share some of his favorite steps that Frankie taught him back in the late 1990’s.

8:00 PM The Lindy Chorus Lindy Hop Workshop (Intermediate level – knowledge of Lindy Hop recommended) 1 hr
The Lindy Chorus is a routine choreographed by our beloved Frankie Manning. In honor of his 100th Birthday celebrations coming in May, we are offering a chance to learn some of this fabulous routine. We’ll get thru as much as we can during this workshop. And plan to perform it in the evening at our dance party. And note: Performances of this routine are planned for this event. All will be welcome to join.

The Teachers

JENNY THOMAS

Jenny Thomas was born in Plymouth. She Graduated with Associates from Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts. She Performed in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Song and Dance" in the West End, Anthony Van Laast's "Souls in Motion and "Shall We Dance"and also partnered Wayne Sleep for 5 years in various shows, tours and galas. She moved to New York to star with Ryan Francois in the original Broadway Musical "Swing", which was nominated for 6 Tony Awards. With the cast of "Swing" she also performed at the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall and The Macy's Day Parade. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall for a Tribute to the late Dudley Moore. Most recently Jenny has been a fixture as one of the main dance coaches and choreographers of Strictly Come Dancing & Strictly Dance Fever. Jenny has a International reputation as one of the top Swing dancers in the world and is also a world class instructor of the Lindy Hop.

SIMON SELMON

DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER, TEACHER, DJ & FOUNDER OF THE LONDON SWING DANCE SOCIETY Simon has choreographed and performed for stage, film, video and television and written two books on Swing dancing. He is a UK and American dance champion and has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines. He founded the London Swing Dance Society in 1986, the UK’s biggest and longest running swing dance club, as well as the famous Stompin’ Swing Nights at London’s legendary 100 Club. A member of The Guild of Professional Teachers of Dance, Movement to Music & Dramatic Art

Learn some Lindy Hop patterns that were inspired by Frankie Manning. And discover how to be improvisational when applying this material.

1:30 pm Jazz Footwork Lindy Hop Workshop (Int Level) 1 hr (39 W 19th St.)
Footwork is an essential part of the Lindy Hop and we'll provide some of the classic jazz steps that have been carried down from generation to generation. this is a great way to add authenticity and style to your dancing.

2:45 pm Lindy Improvisation Workshop (Int Level) 1 hr (39 W 19th St.)
Improvisation is the key to capturing the feel and soul of this dance. It's how the music grew and evolved during the 1930's - 1950's and beyond. Learn great vocabulary and patterns that have a great history. Then learn how to add them to your dancing in an improvisational manner.

Tuck Turns are based on 6-count footwork and provide great techniques for spinning your partner. Then, the Lindy Circle will help get you up to speed for the Lindy Hop material of the Lindy Chorus!

Catrine will present some of the great classic Charleston figures that fit great with your Lindy.
In the late 1980's and early 1990's Catrine and the Rhythm Hot Shots studied and were personally coached by Frankie. He helped them become one of the greatest "recreative" Lindy Hop dance troupes in the world.

Back in the day, Dance couples & tap dancers alike would jump into side by side lines to showcase their favorite material. This workshop will feature several of these fun jazz steps and teach you how to get in and out to bust out these great patterns! knowledge of the 6-count basics is recommended for this class.
