As celebrations continue this last month of 2014 in Frankie Manning’s Centennial Year, our remaining workshops of 2014 will reflect on this great ambassador and pioneer of the Lindy Hop.We’ve invited Bill Kline, (long time student of Frankie Manning (1990's) to teach this workshop.

Learn some of the classic Charleston patterns. Then discover how easily you can transition from one step to another. Then mix it all into your Swing basics.

Learn a socially leadable routine which demonstrates the concept of musicality and how to dance with the music as well as your partner!

EVENING WORKSHOPS (at the JCC in Manhattan)

Specialty Dance Workshops
6:30pm 6-Count & Beyond Dance Workshop (All levels).
This class will take your current 6 count moves and make them flashier, more intricate, and more fun. Lindy hop, the grandfather of swing dance is full of 6 counts moves. There is no reason why these moves need to just be "filler". Jazz them up! You must have a comfortable knowledge of 6-count swing in triple step to take this class. knowledge of the 6-count basics is recommended for this class.

7:30 PM Lindy Hop "Get it Right" Workshop (must have knowledge of swing basics) 50min
This class will take your dancing from Beginner Swing, to the grandfather of them all. Learn the 8 count patterns of this original NYC grassroots dance complete with basic variations.

Back in the day, Dance couples & tap dancers alike would jump into side by side lines to showcase their favorite material. This workshop will feature fun jazz steps and teach you how to showcase them in side by side position! knowledge of the 6-count basics is recommended for this class.

Jazz Footwork Part 1 Shake That Thing (OPEN)
Based on the Vernacular Jazz Footwork and Jazz Steps from the 1930?s – 1950?s this workshop will cover some of the classic Jazz Steps that are used today in the Swing Dance world. These steps are designed to be done in line with a group or in partner. Great for building your vocabulary of moves. We will start the Shake That Routine in this class.

Jazz Footwork Part 2 Shake That Thing (OPEN, Experience Helpful but not necessary)
This workshop will move fast and cover the complete Shake That Thing routine that was choreographed by renowned Lindy Hopper Jenny Thomas. Based on the Vernacular Jazz Footwork and Jazz Steps from the 1930?s – 1950?s this routine is a BLAST! and We plan to perform it late night at our SAT NIGHT Stomp for Frankie!

The Lindy Chorus is a routine choreographed by our beloved Frankie Manning. In honor of his 100th Birthday celebrations coming in May, we are offering a chance to learn some of this fabulous routine. We’ll get thru as much as we can during this workshop. And plan to perform it in the evening at our dance party. And note: Performances of this routine are planned for this event. All will be welcome to join.

The Teachers

JENNY THOMAS

Jenny Thomas was born in Plymouth. She Graduated with Associates from Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts. She Performed in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Song and Dance" in the West End, Anthony Van Laast's "Souls in Motion and "Shall We Dance"and also partnered Wayne Sleep for 5 years in various shows, tours and galas. She moved to New York to star with Ryan Francois in the original Broadway Musical "Swing", which was nominated for 6 Tony Awards. With the cast of "Swing" she also performed at the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall and The Macy's Day Parade. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall for a Tribute to the late Dudley Moore. Most recently Jenny has been a fixture as one of the main dance coaches and choreographers of Strictly Come Dancing & Strictly Dance Fever. Jenny has a International reputation as one of the top Swing dancers in the world and is also a world class instructor of the Lindy Hop.

SIMON SELMON

DANCER, CHOREOGRAPHER, TEACHER, DJ & FOUNDER OF THE LONDON SWING DANCE SOCIETY Simon has choreographed and performed for stage, film, video and television and written two books on Swing dancing. He is a UK and American dance champion and has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines. He founded the London Swing Dance Society in 1986, the UK’s biggest and longest running swing dance club, as well as the famous Stompin’ Swing Nights at London’s legendary 100 Club. A member of The Guild of Professional Teachers of Dance, Movement to Music & Dramatic Art

Improvisation is the key to capturing the feel and soul of this dance. It's how the music grew and evolved during the 1930's - 1950's and beyond. Learn great vocabulary and patterns that have a great history. Then learn how to add them to your dancing in an improvisational manner.

Catrine will present some of the great classic Charleston figures that fit great with your Lindy.
In the late 1980's and early 1990's Catrine and the Rhythm Hot Shots studied and were personally coached by Frankie. He helped them become one of the greatest "recreative" Lindy Hop dance troupes in the world.
