Armed with her new recording contract for Brunswick Records\, their task was to record pop tunes in the new “swing” style for the burgeoning jukebox market. With Miss Holiday as instrumentalist on equal footing with the legendary musicians that accompanied her\, what they created set the template for jazz vocalists\, small combos and swing music\, and created an immutable body of work. Queen Esther and Her Royal Quartet will present a few of these timeless classics for your listening and dancing pleasure. \n———————. \n\n\n \n  \n\nYOUTUBE LINK\nJOHN DOKES at LINCOLN CENTER \n\n  \n  \n \n  \nYOUTUBE LINK\nQUEEN ESTHER I’VE GOT THE CRAZY BLUES \n  \nQUEEN ESTHER BIOGRAPHY \n\nImported from South Carolina’s Lowcountry and the ATL respectively\, vocalist\, songwriter\, musician\, public speaker and producer Queen Esther resides in Harlem and continues to perform internationally with her mentor harmelodic guitar icon James “Blood” Ulmer in various projects — including a recent European tour with his iconic free jazz group Odyssey — as she forges her own sonic path. \n\nDescribed by Vanity Fair as “…a brutal\, original\, explosive singer\,” recent highlights include a TED Talk about the erasure of African-Americans in country and bluegrass\, headlining at Dizzy’s in Lincoln Center with her project Queen Esther sings Billie Holiday: The Lost Classics and a performance of original Black Americana at the 2018 Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago\, Ill. \nJOHN DOKES \n“. . . Dokes sets his after hours sights on being this generation’s standard bearer for classic jazz vocal. Already a known quantity for his work with George Gee’s orchestra\, Dokes does this magnificent job of taking you back to the day without this being a set of manqué-ing around. Swinging and warm throughout\, you will find yourself wondering who this is from back then when it finally hits you this is now. Note perfect throughout\, this is a wonderful return to class and sophistication that just can’t be beat. Hot stuff.” \n— Chris Spector\, Midwest Record \n\n\nFUNDRAISER DETAILS: The NAACP Legal Defense Fund \nThe NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund\, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice.
