The Swing Remix Saga returns with our Season Opener and Back to School Dance on Saturday, September 7th featuring Gordon Webster & Friends. This will be Mr. Webster’s 11th show with us at Swing Remix, which will put this band on TOP for the most appearances ever at our dance party. We’ll also be featuring some Rockin pre-dance workshops along with performances and giveaways!. And look out for a fabulous vintage market, vintage films and more.

WORKSHOPS
6:30PM (55min) –  Intro to Collegiate Shag | Swing Workshop
LEVEL: Adv Basics and up)
Location: Auditorium L2
Description: Collegiate Shag is an energetic partner dance that was popular in the 1930s and 40s. Its unique double-rhythm six-count basic and fancy footwork flourishes distinguish it from other styles of swing from the Carolina Shag to the Lindy Hop & Balboa. Today it’s evolved into a polished, dynamic social dance with creative footwork flourishes and seemingly endless patterns. We’ll cover the basic single and double rhythm footwork, dancing from closed to open position and back, breaking away, then we’ll do it all over faster. And finally you’ll learn how it’s easily incorporated into your swing dancing.

7:30PM (55min) SOLO JAZZ The Golden Age of Hollywood | Lindy Hop Workshop

DESCRIPTION: This is a Soft Shoe class inspired by the greats of The Golden Age of Hollywood (e.g.. Fred & Ginger, Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr.). Andrew Black, tap & Broadway dancer extraordinaire  joins us for the first time with this opportunity to build your skills in Hollywood style Soft Shoe, designed for the Swing Dancer. Andrew Black comes to us from the prestigious Broadway Dance Center where his Tap and Theater Dance classes are technique based with an in-depth warm-up, and across-the-floor patterns that focus on fundamentals including turns, jumps, and clear rhythms. The combination is in a variety of styles from 1920’s Charleston, to 1940’s Swing to MGM style Fred and Ginger numbers..

This class is great if you’re new to swing or if you would like a refresher on partnering. You’ll learn techniques that will bring you up to speed with the crowd of swing dancers. This class is FREE with your General Admission ticket.
